History

In 1961, Newton Meyers was a young Harvard business school graduate with an entrepreneurial spirit who saw the benefits a new space age technology: thermal spray applications. Newton saw an opportunity to use thermal spraying to coat less expensive materials with more durable coatings. He founded Falmer Thermal Spray in the basement of his home and little did he know his business would quickly grow into an industry leader that is expert at solving manufacturers’ quality, protection and lifecycle problems.

As a second generation family-owned business, Falmer appreciates the value of customer relationships. We don’t just provide thermal spray coatings– we help solve our customers’ materials problems. Facility

Now run by Stacy Ames, the Founder’s daughter, the company operates from a modern, 7500 square foot facility located within the North Shore’s R&D hub in Salem, Massachusetts. The new facility boasts clean, modern equipment as well as a state-of-the-art dust collection system to help produce the greenest coatings the industry has to offer. Our thermal spray facility utilizes state-of-the-art equipment to deliver the superior quality coatings customers have come to expect from Falmer. This includes two spray booths; a robot; X/Y and automatic cylindrical coating systems: plasma spray, electric arc spray, and on-site post coating services.

Staff

Stacy Ames, President

Stacy Ames has a BA from Wheaton College.  She has extensive experience with commercial thermal spray applications, R&D and sales. Stacy has been working in the thermal spray industry for more than thirty years. Stacy has affiliations with the ASM International, ASM’s Thermal Spray Society, the American Welding Society and the Wire Association International.  She is a past member of the ASM’s Education Committee and chair of TSS Training Committee, helping to create the first Certified Thermal Spray Operator Program curriculum.

She enjoys bringing value to her customers and working every day with people she respects. Stacy lives on Boston’s North Shore where she serves on the Beverly Education Foundation and Beverly Bank (North Shore Bank) Corporator Boards. Stacy is passionate and active in locate government.  She founded Women Who Run Things: a group of more than 100 women that includes mayors, business and industry leaders as well as CEOs of non-profits who collaborate on how to make the North Shore a good place for women to work and live.

John Matthews, General Manager

John has a BS from Bentley College in Waltham, MA.  He has been working in manufacturing for 16 years and the thermal spray industry for 3 years.  John manages production and maintenance at the Falmer facility with a keen eye towards continuous improvement, increased organization and efficiency.  John enjoys problem solving and digs deep into the R&D projects.

John lives on the North Shore with his wife and two sons.  He enjoys Tai Kickboxing, camping and off-roading with the custom Jeep he built by himself.
